Amazon SES pricing, explained

Updated November 1, 2026

Amazon SES charges for each email you send. New SES accounts now start on the Essentials plan at $0.16 per 1,000 emails, and you can switch to the pay-as-you-go rate of $0.10 per 1,000 at any time.

AWS changed SES pricing in 2026. Since July 21, 2026, new SES accounts, and existing ones with no SES usage since June 1, 2025, start on the Essentials plan. All figures here come from the Amazon SES pricing page, read on November 1, 2026. AWS changes its prices, so check that page before you budget.

SES plans at a glance

PlanPer 1,000 emails, first 10 millionMonthly fee
Pay as you go (a la carte)$0.10None
Essentials (the new default)$0.16None
Pro$0.22$105 per account, per Region
Enterprise$0.23$500 per account, per Region

On the three plans, the rate per 1,000 drops above 10 million and again above 100 million emails a month. The Pro and Enterprise plans add a monthly fee; AWS's page lists what each one includes.

What sending costs at common volumes

Outbound email only, with no attachments and no dedicated IP.

Emails a monthPay as you goEssentials
10,000$1.00$1.60
50,000$5.00$8.00
100,000$10.00$16.00
500,000$50.00$80.00
1,000,000$100.00$160.00

Each figure is the number of thousands of emails times the rate. Every volume here is under 10 million, so only the first rate applies.

Other charges to budget for

  • Attachments: $0.12 per GB of attachment data sent.
  • Standard dedicated IP: $24.95 per IP a month.
  • Managed dedicated IPs: $15 per account a month, plus $0.08 per 1,000 emails for the first 10 million.
  • Virtual Deliverability Manager: $0.07 per 1,000 emails for the first 10 million.
  • Receiving email: $0.10 per 1,000 emails, plus $0.09 per 1,000 chunks of 256 KB.

Is there a free tier?

Not a free monthly email allowance. New AWS customers get up to $200 in AWS Free Tier credits that can be spent on SES. The free plan lasts six months, and the credits must be used within 12 months.

Amazon SES with CommuniQueue

SES is one of the cheapest ways to deliver email. Its templates are created through the SES API or the AWS CLI, which is the workflow its documentation describes.

CommuniQueue sits on top of your SES account. Your team writes, tests and publishes templates in a shared editor, and CommuniQueue sends each finished email through SES, so you keep paying AWS's rate for delivery. Your CommuniQueue plan is billed separately and includes a monthly number of email deliveries: Basic 50,000, Pro 500,000, Business 750,000.
